How long does it take to complete an album?
Generally speaking, it takes me anywhere from 3 to 6 weeks to complete an album. It depends on the size of the job and the number of photos I’ll be working with, but I’ll work with you to determine a schedule that works for both of us.
Can I see some pages before you finish the whole job?
Absolutely! If you’re a new client, I’ll create 4 or 5 layouts, then send you digital images to approve before I continue. This affords you an opportunity to give me feedback and allows me a chance to understand exactly what it is you’re after. I want to create albums that are not only pleasing to the eye, but that speak to your heart as well.
How many photos fit on a page?
In most cases, I will place between three and six 4x6 photos on a 12x12 page. Of course, there are exceptions to that rule. In some instances, I feel that the story is best told with an enlarged photo, and in others, a mosaic of smaller photos tells the story best. I will always work with your budget in mind, and will strive to keep the number of pages to a minimum.
Do you permanently adhere all of the photos?
Yes, unless you ask me not to do so. I use only permanent, photo safe, acid-free adhesives. If you request that certain photos be removable, I’ll use clear photo-corners.
Do you crop (cut) all of the photos?
In many cases, cropping the photo actually improves it by ridding the photo of distracting background clutter and focusing on the subject. If there are photos that you do NOT want cropped, simply note that on your order and I’ll adhere them as I receive them.
What kinds of embellishments will you be using in my album?
My goal is for your photos, not the embellishments, to be the focal point of every page. However, embellishments can be used to artfully enhance your photos and the stories they tell. I use only top-of-the-line papers, adhesives and embellishments. Depending on the look you’re after, I’ll use any or all of the following when creating your album: acid-free/lignin-free cardstock and paper; acid-free stickers and die cuts; metals and fibers (such as brads, ribbons, bookplates, etc.). I may also use waterproof/fadeproof pens, scrapbooking inks and chalks, and scrapbooking paint. I strive to keep up with the latest trends. If there is any product you wish me NOT to use, simply tell me and I’ll avoid using it in your albums.
I already have some supplies. Can you use them?
Sure! I’ll do my best to use the supplies you already have on hand, as long as they are photo-safe.
What about memorabilia? Is it safe to use?
Because some memorabilia is NOT safe, it’s always best if you can provide me with color copies made on acid-free paper. Newspapers, postcards and most other printed materials are made using paper that’s not acid or lignin-free. If you want to use original copies in your albums, we can certainly do that, too. If I’m using buffered pages (I always do, unless you provide me with pages to use that aren’t), I’ll design your layouts so that the memorabilia doesn’t come in contact with the photos. (The buffering on the pages acts as a barrier against the acid, preventing it from “leaking” across the page and onto your photos.) In some cases, the original memorabilia can act as an interesting embellishment (train tickets, boarding passes, movie tickets, receipts, children’s artwork, etc). In any case, I’ll strive to act in the best interest of your photos while creating a meaningful, artful layout with your memorabilia.
All of my photos are on my harddrive. Can I email my photos to you?
I would prefer to have actual printed photos, but I’m willing to work with you if sending digital files is your preferred method. There will be an additional fee for printing and sorting your digital photos.
What if my photos get lost in the mail?
I ask that you send your photos via UPS or USPS, insured for the cost of replacing them should they become lost or damaged. I will do the same for their return trip to you. In 3 years of doing business through the mail, I’ve never had a package of photos/scrapbooks lost or damaged.
How do I place an order?
Click here for your initial consultation. I will conduct a free phone consultation with you at your convenience, at which time we’ll discuss any details and questions that you might have. I’ll ask you to fill out and return to me a contract and an order form, and from there, we’ll get started on preserving your priceless memories!
